The Melbourne Cup Carnival is the highlight of the sporting calendar for Victorians, Australians and many overseas racing fans. The Carnival sees four major days of racing - AAMI Victoria Derby Day, Emirates Melbourne Cup Day, Crown Oaks Day and Emirates Stakes Day.
Flemington is synonymous with Australia’s premier horse race, the Melbourne Cup, run here on the first Tuesday in November since 1861 and is Australia's richest horse race.
In 2006 Flemington was added to the National Heritage List.
